Kiel Samsing
Kiel began his fire service career with the James City Bruton Volunteer Fire Department and became a professional firefighter with the Newport News Fire Department. Promoted to Lieutenant in 2017, he is currently assigned to fire administration working with the operations chief. He also served as a part-time firefighter with the West Point Volunteer Fire Department — giving him rare insight into both true urban and true rural response environments.
Kiel founded Mind of Fire in 2018 after recognizing a critical gap in the fire service: outstanding tactical training, but almost no attention to the cognitive and decision-making skills that determine outcomes in chaotic situations.
