Mind of Fire
We founded our company in 2018 as a response to the overwhelming amount of one-size-fits-all solutions being offered in the market. Our company is dedicated to elevating decision-making and leadership through a focus on cognitive development. In the challenging and dynamic environment that firefighters operate in, quick and effective decision-making is crucial. We provide specialized consulting services that empower leaders to enhance their cognitive abilities, enabling them to make informed decisions in high-stakes situations. Our approach goes beyond traditional training by emphasizing not only tactical skills but also the development of mental resilience, strategic thinking, and empowered leadership. Through our programs, we aim to equip firefighting teams with the cognitive tools necessary to navigate complex scenarios and optimize their overall performance. We recognize that there is no single solution to every problem, and it's important to be prepared for any challenge that may arise.
At Mind of Fire, our mission is to empower fire departments and first responders with the knowledge and tools they need to effectively protect lives and property. We strive to deliver innovative, street-smart training and consulting services that are grounded in real-world experience and proven tactics. Through our commitment to excellence and our focus on the needs of our clients, we aim to be a trusted partner in the firefighting community, helping to enhance safety and readiness for all.

Owner/Instructor
Kiel Samsing
Kiel began his fire service career with the James City Bruton Volunteer Fire Department. He became a professional firefighter a few years later when he was hired by the Newport News Fire Department. In 2017 he was promoted to Lieutenant and is currently assigned to Engine Company No. 2 in the East End part of the city. Kiel is also a part time firefighter for the West Point Volunteer Fire Department. The dichotomy between these two response areas gives Kiel an insight that few have, true urban and true rural exprience. Kiel has been an instructor at Andy Fredericks Training Days, Art of Firemanship, and the Firemanship Conference Portland. He has been an FDIC H.O.T. lead instructor and classroom instructor.
